Thanks to Paul James

Hi Ray,

I'm sending you a tiny selection of the many photos I took at the Jan 14 Muskoka Wildlife Centre workshop. It was a great experience being able to get so close to the animals (I'm not forgetting Luna the owl) and to take their pictures without having a wire fence in the way. Although I took hundreds of images that day, there were times when I just watched the animals for the pleasure of seeing them -- magical.

I hope to see you at another workshop very soon,

Regards,
Paul James

Thanks to Muskoka Wildlife Center

Raymond Barlow's Winter workshops!

We have enjoyed several programs up
at the Muskoka Wildlife Center.

These programs involve a lot of management, and experiance has proven to be very helpful. Dale and I started working these ideas over 3 years ago, and about 35 workshops back!  We have worked out a lot of cool set up, and animal co-ordination to maximize the opportunity for guest photographers to capture superb images.

We start by briefing my guests, all the ins and outs of our plans.  I will first explain various thing to do with your camera, settings, exposure control, etc., then give details on how to position yourself for the best possible shot.  Next, Dale will help everyone understand the protocol involved in safety, and animal "comfort zones".  We want you to be calm and interacting with the wolves, cougar, lynx and fox, along with the star attraction, Luna the Telus Owl!

Dale is a superb story teller.  He gives everyone the history and issues concerning each subject, and how they arrived at the Muskoka Wildlife Center.  Next, we enter the wolf enclosure for a face to face shoot!  The fun, excitement, and clicking is happening!  We continue through each subjects home, and close the day with a pose with Luna, the wonderful and beautiful Saw-whet Owl.

I am very lucky to have so many fantastic guests who are generous to allow me to present to you their images, and experiances here on my blog.  a special thanks to everyone!  Here are a few of my shots... just click on the image to see a larger view.

Thanks to Don Jader

Hi Ray,

I was always amazed at the images you shared online and in the forums, so I was very excited when we were able to join you in one of your workshops.
It was a very informative day for me (and I know for the others as well) so I want to thank you for hosting a great workshop for us “first timers” last weekend.
I was able to produce some of my best images yet thanks partly on your tips and advice for better composition and shooting technique.
I also want to give a thank you to Dale and his helpful staff in the Muskoka Wildlife Center.
I appreciate the history of why the animals were there and also the chance to shoot very close to them.
Hopeful to do another one of your workshops in the near future.

Cheers.

Don Jader

Thanks to John Murden

Today was fantastic.  I really enjoyed myself.  It was very fortunate
for me that Becky drove me around or I would have had a
problem walking the hills.  The weather turned out perfect.  Lynn
was totally happy that I came home so
enthused. Can 't wait to download.

Love to do the owls with you.
Please check out my website too:
Thanks again for a great day.

Muskoka in the Snowstorm

Just writing and sending a few photographs to say
that I enjoyed the Muskoka Wildlife Centre Workshop
on January 28, 2012. With the fresh snowfall that for
awhile was a blizzard and the low lighting I
was pretty intimidated and worried that it would be
really hard to capture images of the animals that would
be somewhat crisp (not too grainy). With
your guidance and some real good concentration
on my part I was able to get some beautiful images
even with my really basic Canon
Rebel Xti & under $500 zoom lens.
(I'm on a low budget...)

The animals were so beautiful. I learned a lot about
the animals from listening to the caregivers descriptions of
each animal to us during the sessions.

I was impressed with the way each session
was run in regards to safety guidelines for humans
and for animals, respect to the
animals welfare as first priority and with
great care by all of us.

I am so pleased that I got some images that I love because it
has already allowed me to share them with many people
who want to know more about that particular species or
those who have a passion for the environment and all its
creatures. I think my favorite was the cougar & owl but I
also greatly enjoyed the wolves. My wolf images are softer
as the lighting was pretty challenging for me so I guess I will have
to come back for another try! Practice, practice, practice...

I hope to get employment soon so I can use my vacation
time to attend the East Coast sessions you are offering and
see those awesome gannet colonies, puffins
and the fishing villages- looks like a dream photo
journey!

Thanks again it was worth the drive.
